Thank you for visiting my site. I am an English and Psychology teacher at Cedar Springs High School. I love designing creative curriculum to engage all students. I am active in the school community and am passionate about being a Red Hawk.
My favorite part about being a teacher of high school aged students, is the honest conversations we have about their thoughts and their perspectives. I work to shape and mold these young men and women as they are and not as I wish for them to be. I am constantly working on how to equip my students to become successful individuals, no matter what they choose to be in their individual futures. I grew up in Southern California, but came to Michigan for college. I attended Grand Rapids Community College, Calvin College, and Grand Valley State University. Although I began my post high school education in Southern California, where I was raised, I continued my education at Calvin College, Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University and completed one master's degree from Michigan State University (2014) and another from the American College of Education (2017). The Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program has been both motivational and encouraging and I learned to explore and integrate technology into my classroom to help maximize student learning and understanding. The program has and will encourage me to grow as an educator. The compilation of my work can be found under the Michigan State tab above. Learning and curiosity is in my blood. While completing my masters degree, I applied to join the Summer Institute of the Lake Michigan Writing Project to join fellow educators in growing the craft of writing within ourselves to serve our students. The compilation of work completed during the Summer Institute can be found under the LMWP tab above. This online portfolio contains information about me, my resume, my coursework of the MAET program, descriptions of my Master’s courses, a showcase of my work, my personal essays, information about my classroom and areas of interest as a teacher, learner, and researcher. I hope you take time to review it and learn about my passion for teaching and learning. Outside of my role as a teacher, I am a wife to my husband and a mother to our son born in October 2016. We also have two lab pups. Rufus is our 75 pound 3 year old black lab and Jarvis is our 60 pound 1 year old chocolate lab who is just plain crazy. My life is a busy one, but I would not trade it for all the world. I feel fulfilled every day, even in my roughest days. I am a Red Hawk. A proud Red Hawk. I have also been a Spartan, a Laker, a Raider, a Knight, a 49er, a Trojan, a Knight (again), a Dolphin, and I think that might be it. Maybe there is another in the future? |
